Alamo Area Aquatics Association Restructuring: What It Means for San Antonio Swimming (2026)

Get ready for a shakeup in the world of aquatic sports! The Alamo Area Aquatics Association (AAAA) is undergoing a significant restructuring, and it's a move that's sure to spark some debate.

AAAA, a multi-site swim club with an impressive seven locations across San Antonio, is taking a bold step by separating some of its larger locations affiliated with public school districts. But here's where it gets controversial: while many large teams are combining resources, AAAA is choosing to go in the opposite direction.

"The restructuring aims to maximize each location's potential and enhance support for aquatic sports in San Antonio," a source close to the team revealed. And this is the part most people miss: it's all about ensuring every location can thrive independently.

One confirmed split is the Southwest ISD location, which will bid farewell to AAAA after the current short course season and emerge as the Southwest Aquatic Warriors (SAW) for the 2026 long course campaign.

While other breakaway locations remain unconfirmed, it's highly likely that Northside ISD and North East ISD, the team's two largest hubs with multiple high schools, will also part ways. Judson ISD is another probable candidate, large enough to stand alone.

The remaining locations include the Jewish Community Center (JCC), San Antonio Nadadores, and the Comal site, with Nadadores being the largest of the trio.

This breakup comes at a time when we've seen a trend of large clubs merging to streamline operations. For instance, last summer, California's Beach Cities Swimming and Alpha Aquatics announced a merger, citing "inefficiencies and missed opportunities" in the South Bay Area of Los Angeles. Similarly, in January 2025, the Pleasanton Seahawks and Crow Canyon Sharks joined forces, and further back, in 2022, Club Kick Start merged with the North Carolina Aquatic Club.

So, why is AAAA bucking this trend? It's a question that invites discussion and differing opinions.

What do you think? Is this a bold move towards independence, or a risky strategy? Share your thoughts in the comments and let's spark a conversation!
