A Fresh Benji Marshall Twist Elevates the drama at Wests Tigers
Wests Tigers have extended Benji Marshall’s contract through 2030, signaling a remarkable show of backing for the club’s coach amid a turbulent period. The extension adds to the existing agreement that ran through 2027,Clear across the board, the club announced on Friday that Marshall will remain at the helm for the next five seasons.
The timing coincided with another upheaval in Tiger Town, as Shaun Mielekamp stepped in as interim CEO after Shane Richardson’s dramatic departure. In just 11 days, the Tigers have seen more than half of their board members dismissed, the CEO resign, board members invited back, and Marshall’s contract extended.
This new deal appears designed to inject stability at a time of upheaval, and it was already in the works before directors were reconvened on Thursday.
Officials at the Tigers likely hope the renewed commitment helps secure star players Jarome Luai and Jahream Bula, who could consider options beyond 2027 and beyond. The decision also stands as a powerful vote of confidence in the 40-year-old coach from the joint-venture club.
Marshall has steered the Tigers to 17th and 13th in his first two seasons, respectively, though signs of meaningful improvement are evident in 2025.
Among all 17 NRL clubs, only Cameron Ciraldo currently has a longer coaching contract than Marshall.
